A fun weekend at Larmer Tree Festival

This year we are making an effort to get out and enjoy the summer as much as possible. We have planned activities or mini breaks away for all our weekends off from weddings between now and winter 🤣 the first of these planned mini breaks was to camp at Larmer Tree Festival in Wiltshire last weekend. The festival is held in Larmer Tree Gardens in the heart of Cranborne Chase, an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Wiltshire/ Dorset border.

One of the things I loved the most about the festival is their focus on the environment. Festivals and large scale events (weddings too!) can be incredibly wasteful unless action is taken beforehand to counter this. Larmer Tree do their bit to eliminate single-use plastics wherever possible. The organisers ask festival goers to bring their own reusable cups, plates, cutlery and bottles to use. All bars onsite used recycled cups (which were to be recycled once again after the event) too! There were no single-use plastic bottles available at the festival but there were plenty of water taps everywhere. FRANK Water were also on hand to encourage everyone to use reusable bottles and with a wristband you could have as much filtered chilled water as you wanted 💙 the fab Bristol based charity do great work to provide clean safe drinking water and sanitation to communities in rural India and Nepal. The festival also recycles as much of the waste created as possible and any material that can’t be recycled is baled for waste energy production, so that nothing goes to landfill :)

The main reason I wanted to go to Larmer Tree Festival was to see Kate Tempest headline the main stage on the Saturday night. I’m a big fan and it was such a profound experience seeing her perform live. Kate’s new album is super emotional and more personal than previous work but it still retains poignant observations about society, human emotions and her compassion for the planet. Her set definitely made me shed a tear or two! Have a listen to her album here :)

The festival was a super fun experience and perfect for families. There were so many activities from slacklining, a silent disco held in the woods after sunset, yoga, pottery, meditation, macrame to woodland crafts, calligraphy and much more.

I would definitely recommend the festival if you’re looking for somewhere fun to go with friends or family next year.

Larmer Tree Gardens also do weddings! We would love to document a wedding here, it’s so beautiful 😍

An autumn honeymoon trip to France

2017 was a great year for epic trips abroad. In May we travelled to the US to get married  and in October we took a delayed honeymoon trip to France ♡

Two good friends of ours Lenka and Alastair (I photographed their wedding earlier in the year) invited us out to stay in their beautiful gîte 'La Bergerie' between Le Mans and Tours. We had a wonderful time exploring the local area, eating far too much delicious food and drinking excellent wine. The gîte would make an incredible alternative honeymoon getaway and I can't recommend the place enough :)

After a lovely few days we travelled by train to Paris for a 24 hour sightseeing trip. Neither of us had visited Paris before so we were keen to see as much as we could! Unfortunately we both found the city to be such a shock to the senses in comparison to the peaceful countryside we'd left behind at 'La Bergerie'. We filled up on gluten free pastries and coffee and took another train down to some long overdue mountain air.

Chamonix felt like a dream. The air was so fresh and the mountains so beautiful that I didn't want to leave. We spent a wonderful week here hiking, eating (notice a pattern here!?), exploring and dreaming about a simpler life. We made some big decisions during this trip about where we see ourselves in the future (stay tuned later this year to find out!) and we both returned home feeling super relaxed and happy ♡ I recommend Chamonix (out of season!) to anyone who wants to unwind and completely relax :)

The timing of our trip meant that I celebrated my 29th birthday while we were in Chamonix. We spent the day up the Aiguille du Midi, a mountain in the Mont Blanc massif which towers over the town. Taking two cable cars up the mountain and experiencing the incredible views and mountain air has to be one of the greatest experiences of my life to date. I will never forget the beautiful smell of the snow and the beautiful silence up above the clouds. I recommend the experience!

2017 was such an adventure and I can't wait for what 2018 brings - some amazing weddings and another two awesome trips in the works!

Russell created this video of our trip, check it out :)

Enjoy the photographs ♡ (there are quite a few...)
