Sarah & Daniel | A fun summer wedding at Tewin Bury Farm

Such a gorgeous wedding! 🎉

Sarah and Daniel were so lucky with the weather and Tewin Bury Farm is an incredible venue which looked beautiful in the sunshine. They held both their ceremony and reception in the Tythe Barn.

We first met these two on another beautiful sunny day last year for their sunrise couple shoot at West Wittering beach ☀️ we adore Sarah and Daniel, I don’t think I’ve ever met such a gentle and sweet couple. We initially connected over our mutual love of travel (they got engaged in Yosemite 😍) and we talked for hours, swapping stories of fun adventures and dreams for the future (travel related of course!).

This wedding day was all about family. As soon as we arrived with Sarah and her girls we could tell that everyone was super excited but you could definitely feel the nerves in the room too 😜 everyone cares about these two so much and there were a lot of happy tears when Sarah put on her gorgeous wedding dress.

We were joined by the lovely Nikki Cooper Photography as a second photographer which was amazing as she knows the family really well :) some of her awesome shots are included below.

To avoid feeling too stressed, the couple chose Ambience Venue Styling to decorate the venue and they totally nailed it ✨ hiring someone to style your wedding is actually a really good idea for an eco wedding too, this way you know everything will be used again.

One very popular part of this wedding was the yummy Krispy Kreme doughnut wall (a DIY project and it looked amazing!), thankfully I got a photograph of it before a billion guests ran in and demolished the doughnuts 😂

During the speeches everyone commented on how good Sarah and Daniel are for each other and we wholeheartedly agree. Our favourite part of the day was when we went for a walk to take some couple portraits and the two of them relaxed into each other and it dawned on them that they had just got married :) I love this part of a wedding day (and it’s why we love elopements too!) because it’s often the first time the couple get to relax with each other. These two are made for each other and it shows. They have a thousand inside jokes and stories and it was such a joy to spend the day with them as they celebrated their wedding.

Thank you so much for choosing us to document your wedding, you gorgeous pair 😄

Sally & Neil | An eco-friendly & vegan tipi wedding at Four Oaks Farm

Well, it’s official. Vegan weddings are our favourite 🌱

I’m also fairly sure that Sally is my spirit animal 😏

These two booked me as their photographer years ago when I longed to document vegan and eco friendly weddings. Since we re-launched our business we’ve been getting some incredible enquiries from vegan couples who long to get married but want to organise a sustainable and ethical day 💚 it may seem tricky to cater for 50+ people without creating tonnes of waste but it is definitely possible! Keep reading to steal some ideas from these two 😉

Sally and Neil. Ahhh these two are super friendly, hilarious and kind. They are kick ass parents too. Russell and I had been looking forward to this wedding for a long time. Ever since I met the two of them for their couple shoot at Sheffield Gardens and Sally and I chatted for what may have been hours (sorry Neil!) about planning a vegan and sustainable wedding, I knew their day would be incredible.

We all started the day at Sally’s Mum’s, just round the corner from the couple’s house where Neil was getting ready with their son Stan and his family. Sally had chosen Tia Bliss for her hair and make up as Tia uses 100% cruelty free products and is vegan herself. Sally’s lovely Mum had arranged a surprise VW camper van to take them all to the ceremony - so cute!

The couple chose to hold their intimate ceremony at Lewes Registry Office (Southover Grange), a quirky 16th Century Manor House in the middle of Lewes. We really liked that they chose to have a smaller ceremony followed by a party as this meant they got plenty of time with family 💛 just look at how happy Erin is to see her Mum and Dad get married!

After the ceremony everyone went to a cute little wine bar for champagne and canapés while Russell and I went ahead to Four Oaks Farm to meet their guests and await their arrival. Four Oaks Farm is such a lovely venue as you can pop a tipi up right by the lake and have lots of outdoor games. At least that was the plan until our English summer intervened 😂 the weather was absolutely terrible 😂. Due to heavy winds and rain Tentipi (the guys who provided the tipi) made the call to keep the sides of the tipi down permanently for the entire day (completely justified but I definitely did a big photographer cry inside when I found out!). Having said that, I’ve never met anyone who can take anything in their stride quite like Sally and Neil. They just didn’t care about the weather! #perfectcouple All they wanted was to have a great day with their friends and family and that’s what they did :)

The extra super Superdoux from Brighton provided a fantastic vegan buffet which went down well with everyone, even the non-vegans 😉 and the awesome vegan cakes were provided by The Cornish Pasty Shop yummmm.

It was important to both Sally and Neil that their wedding produced as little waste as possible, not only did they choose suppliers based on their eco credentials but they also asked guests to BYOB and drinking receptacle - they even had a prize for the most original. Guests brought mugs (my favourite of which is below modelled by Sally’s awesome sister Charlotte!) and ale tankards but oh my gosh…there were some very original ones 😂😂 see below! They also provided buckets for food waste and recycling.

The couple chose the band Shockwave to get everyone up on their feet and I defo recommend them, live bands at weddings are such a good choice if you want the dance floor to be packed!

A woman after my own heart, Sally isn’t too fond of traditions so there was no cake cutting 🙌 and her and her mum were the only ones who gave a speech. Love it.

Righto, I’m going to stop waffling now and let the photos tell the rest!

Holly & Liam | A laidback outdoor wedding at Rumbolds Farm

These two sure know how to throw a great wedding! 🎉

Holly and Liam chose the wonderful Rumbolds Farm for their wedding as the venue has beautiful gardens and the couple wanted an outdoor ceremony. Unfortunately outdoor ceremonies aren’t legal in England (boo!) so they did the legal bit at Horsham Registry Office the day before. This turned out to be the best choice they could have made because not only did this mean they got an entire wedding weekend instead of one day (woo!) but it also meant that the nerves they felt before the ceremony on Friday were gone by the time they had their wedding on Saturday 💜

The two photos below are from their legal ceremony on the Friday :) (keep reading below for more!)

Horsham Registry Office wedding
Couple practises their first dance outside Horsham Registry Office

Russell and I were both super excited on Saturday morning for several reasons: Holly and Liam are the sweetest couple ever and we couldn’t wait to see them celebrate with all their friends and family, we’ve wanted to shoot at Rumbolds Farm for ages(!) AND the weather was perfect - it was warm but not too hot, dry and bright but a little overcast ☁️ so no bright sunshine! #photographygeeks

Holly and her bridesmaids got ready in one of the cute cottages available at the farm. The farm has great accommodation for weddings as there are two separate cottages and also some guest accommodation for family and/or friends. Holly chose to do her own make-up which I absolutely loved as she was so relaxed about it! The girls all did each other’s hair and it was wonderful to see them enjoying the morning so much :)

Neither of us could get over how beautiful the ceremony location was. The couple chose to exchange vows in front of a lake surrounded by incredible trees. Everything was so green, we loved it and so did the guests. Holly and Liam exchanged personal vows which were so beautiful and funny. We love it when couples write their own vows (we did!), it’s such a nice way of incorporating your personality into your wedding. Unfortunately just days before the wedding the Rumbolds Farm officiant/owner injured himself by falling off a ladder :( so he was unable to conduct the ceremony. Holly and Liam found Ed Hardy - a wonderful humanist celebrant and he was absolutely brilliant! We 100% recommend Ed if you’re looking for a celebrant for your wedding :)

Holly and Liam spent months and months on all the DIY for their wedding and it really showed. Holly collected eucalyptus and with the help of family and friends decorated the entire venue with it (including their beautiful wedding arch!) and also used lots of it for confetti. The smell was just incredible 💚 and she even made her own bouquet!

After the ceremony the couple celebrated with their friends and family by drinking champagne and sharing an afternoon tea. Vintage Style Teas provided the refreshments and they were incredible. They even brought Russell and I some tea and cake which was much appreciated! ☺️

After the food everyone danced the night away 🎉 most of the guests camped overnight (LOVE that Rumbolds Farm offer this) so the party continued into the early hours of the morning :)

Such a fun and beautiful wedding! Holly and Liam, you are the absolute best - thank you so much for choosing us to document your epic wedding. We hope you’re enjoying Mauritius! 🍹🌴😩 haha :’)

Beth & Simon | A relaxed summer wedding at Captains Wood Barn in Essex

If you’ve seen Beth and Simon’s couple shoot in Richmond Park on the blog then you will know how in love these two are ❤️ Russell and I love to document amazing fun weddings but ultimately what matters most is the love and I have never seen two people look at each other the way these two do. Their wedding day was all about their family and friends but it was like the two of them were literally walking on air and they couldn’t take their eyes off each other. Ladies and gents, that’s true love that is.

I feel like I can’t rave enough about these two. They are just the kindest and most gentle people you could ever meet. It was such a joy to see them get married and be there to capture it all! ✨

Beth started the day getting ready with her bridesmaids and family. I love this part of a wedding day - it can be a bit chaotic and this was no exception. There were so many people bustling in and out of the house but there was so much happiness. Everyone was so excited to get to the wedding.

Beth and Simon were wed at United Reformed Church by their friend and it was such a moving ceremony. Just look at the photographs below, everyone was so happy :)

The couple and their guests headed to Captains Wood Barn for the wedding reception and wow - what a venue. Ever since I first saw this place on instagram I’ve been dreaming about photographing a wedding here, you’ll see why! The barn is just so beautiful and the woodlands that surround the barn are just 👌

The drinks reception was held in the woodland and the bridal party travelled there by tractor which was awesome!

Like us, Beth and Simon love coloured smoke grenades. They just make the most epic portraits and once I saw that the bridesmaids all had matching jackets I insisted we go out for some bridesmaid portraits with them. You can see the results below, how badass do those babes look!

After a delicious meal, hilarious speeches and cake cutting (with an epic sword 😏) there was an awesome ceilidh. A ceilidh is my absolute favourite wedding tradition. Everyone should have them! Simon’s family are Scottish and it isn’t a proper ceilidh without all the men wearing kilts 😉

Such an awesome wedding. Guys, shall we do it again? 😎

If you’re planning a relaxed and fun wedding and you’re looking for a photographer and/or wedding film, let us know!

A beautiful Lake District elopement at Blea Tarn

There are so many reasons to elope ✨

Too many couples look back on their wedding day and feel sad that they didn’t spend enough time with the person they had just married. Imagine spending the majority of the day only with the person you love. You can celebrate in any way you choose without worrying about family politics or everyone else having a good time.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good party and I can definitely understand couples choosing to focus on family when planning their wedding but I think it’s a shame that so many regret not focusing enough time on just the two of them. Weddings are about two people in love after all!

Rachael Burton and Jade Maguire put together this epic Lake District elopement styled shoot to show the benefits of choosing to elope. The shoot was held in Blea Tarn, a wonderful lake hidden in the mountains in the Lake District. There are so many amazing spots in the UK to elope and while a ceremony held in a place like this wouldn’t be legal, you could always do the legal bit the day before and have a humanist blessing somewhere like this 😍 you could even bring a handful of your nearest and dearest along to celebrate with you! (Or you could just elope to Scotland where it’s completely legal 😉)

Rachael and Jade wanted a bohemian vibe for the shoot and chose the incredible Capella dress from the Cosmos collection by Rolling in Roses. I absolutely love Rolling in Roses as all their boho dresses are handmade in Yorkshire, they recycle all their offcuts and strive to run their business as sustainably as possible, yay!

Several other local suppliers worked with Rachael and Jade to style this shoot including Little White Attic who provided the beautiful macrame wedding arch (which you can hire directly from them here), stunning flowers by Bizzi Lizzi and hair and make up by Makeup by Leigh and Wedding hair in the Lakes.

Are you tempted to elope with your love? We did just that and we’ve not regretted it for a second 💕

We offer elopement coverage (and shh, don’t tell anyone but it’s our favourite!), take a look at our info page or get in touch for more details :)

Rio & Connor | A spring wedding at Gildings Barn

My first wedding of 2019 was an epic one :)

Rio and Connor booked me years ago and I was so excited to photograph their wedding! Rio is such a sweetheart and her bubbly energy is infectious. You can see from their couple shoot here that all she does is laugh and smile constantly 💕

Rio got ready for the wedding with her best friends at her parent’s house and it was such a lovely start to the day. Rio’s bridesmaids even serenaded her while she had her make-up finished 😉

The couple chose to hold their wedding ceremony at Crawley Baptist Church as the church meant a great deal to their families. Not all church services are personal but this one really was. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

The couple’s chosen reception venue was Gildings Barn near Dorking. The barn is in a beautiful spot, surrounded by countryside. As guests arrived they were greeted with Connor’s favourite beers and their friends performing an acoustic set. Gildings Barn is a really versatile wedding venue as there are 3 different barns - one for the meal and dancing and the other two for relaxing and/or drinks! I know this is one of the reasons that Rio and Connor chose Gildings Barn for their wedding as they wanted somewhere that would suit their guests for the entire evening and would also provide enough space in case the weather turned - which of course it did!🌦

Despite the rain, Rio and Connor and their friends and family had such a blast. They drank great beer, ate good food and with so many guests from all over the world, they had a great catch-up too!

In the evening the wedding guests were entertained by the band Vivo (I coincidentally used to work for the same company as the singer in our former lives before weddings!). The band were awesome! Live music at a wedding really gets the energy moving. If you’re getting married and want a packed dance floor - get a band!

After their first dance, Rio’s cousin (a professional parkour athlete!) cleared the space in front of the stage and jumped over Rio, it was awesome! 🤸🏻‍♂️

Congratulations again you beautiful pair!

Sarah & Toby | A fun wedding at the Little Theatre in Bath

Where to even begin with this wedding!

Sarah and Toby are the best kind of people. They are warm, hilarious and just the most fun to be around. I honestly don’t know if I have ever laughed as much photographing a wedding! The couple have a bunch of great friends too and I felt so welcomed throughout the day by everyone, it was really lovely.

Sarah got ready at her childhood home with her best friend, parents and adorable nieces. The two girls were so cute and really mischievous! I absolutely loved Sarah’s choice of wedding car - her and her family love classic minis and they couldn’t resist the opportunity to drive into Bath in two of them (see below!).

The couple chose to get married at the Little Theatre in Bath. I LOVE this venue, Russell and I even looked into getting married here ourselves. Basically couples get married on the stage in front of their friends and family as the “audience” and it’s pretty magical. The theatre is from the 1930s and the decor is almost identical to when it first opened. The lighting in the theatre is dark and atmospheric so we talked beforehand about whether or not they would like me to use flash. I wouldn’t normally use flash during a wedding ceremony unless the venue is super dark and in that case I would always check with the couple first. I explained that by not using flash the images would be slightly grainy but they loved the idea of that as the result would be more in keeping with the vibe of the venue.

The ceremony was really beautiful. Sarah and Toby’s friend made them an incredible 8-bit video to play shortly before they exchanged rings. After the ceremony everyone ate popcorn and drank beer while avoiding the rain outside.

As it was raining, Sarah and Toby hopped into a mini and drove to their reception venue - Bath Function Rooms, while the rest of their guests (and me!) walked to the venue through the streets of Bath. I loved this part of the day as all the guests had funky umbrellas with colourful outfits and we caused quite a stir as we walked among the shoppers and commuters!

The wedding reception was super fun and included lovely (and hilarious!) speeches and a brilliant quiz. Family photographs were a blast too as Sarah and Toby kept jumping in front of each other’s families, it was so funny. The best part for me though was when Sarah, Toby and I went for a little walk while they turned the room around for dancing. We walked past Sainsburys (v entertaining for shoppers!) and went to take zombie portraits by the river (dream couple or what!). On the way to the river we bumped into a group of uni students who were on their way back from the shop with cucumber (?) and prosecco! They shared their prosecco with Sarah and Toby and it was such a laugh :)

We returned to Bath Function Rooms for their first dance to Frightened Rabbit ‘Old, Old Fashioned’ 💛😭 and an evening full of dancing.

This wedding was awesome, Sarah and Toby - you’re the best 🤩

Zuzana & Martin | A beautiful autumn wedding in Newbury

Zuzana and Martin chose to get married at the beautiful Mercure Newbury Elcot Park Hotel in Berkshire. The benefits of getting married in the hotel is that the couple and the guests didn’t need to travel between venues which gave everyone more time to enjoy themselves :)

I met Zuzana and Martin at the wedding of one of my previous couples - Lenka and Alastair (see their wedding here) and I was delighted to be asked to be their photographer too. In fact, you may see Lenka and Alastair photographed below with a lovely new addition!

All morning the girls were worried about the weather as there had been a storm overnight and there was a real threat of rain - they need not have worried though as the sun came out moments before the ceremony. Zuzana and Martin chose to have a first look before their ceremony as they were both feeling pretty nervous about seeing each other for the first time in front of all their loved ones. I had suggested the first look as it worked so well at a previous wedding I photographed in Australia (here) and they were super happy with the idea. The bridesmaids worked hard to ensure that none of the arriving guests could see Zuzana as she walked through the hotel grounds to meet Martin. Their first look was really emotional and beautiful 💛

The ceremony itself was also incredibly moving. Martin has a wonderfully emotive face and he couldn’t hold back the tears as he saw Zuzana walk down the aisle, it was really sweet!

After the ceremony the newlyweds and all the guests spent some time in the gardens playing around with the autumn leaves (ok ok that was mostly just the one four legged guest 😉). I reckon that autumn is my favourite time of year to photograph weddings - although the weather can be unreliable (tbf we’re based in the UK, the weather is unreliable all year round!) but when it plays ball the light is beautiful and I adore the red and golden leaves that litter the ground. These leaves also make excellent eco friendly confetti!!

After this Zuzana and Martin smashed plates in front of the hotel and worked together to clear them up. I’ve seen this tradition a few times and it can be pretty fun! I love the reaction of the guests as they try to clear it up with the help of the cheeky groomsmen 😉

Later on in the day we also had smoke grenades - you only need to take a look around my website briefly to see that I adore these in couple portraits! In this instance I loved the juxtaposition between the traditional Manor House and the bright pink smoke.

All in all, a fantastic autumnal wedding full of love and laughter!
