Well, it’s official. Vegan weddings are our favourite 🌱
I’m also fairly sure that Sally is my spirit animal 😏
These two booked me as their photographer years ago when I longed to document vegan and eco friendly weddings. Since we re-launched our business we’ve been getting some incredible enquiries from vegan couples who long to get married but want to organise a sustainable and ethical day 💚 it may seem tricky to cater for 50+ people without creating tonnes of waste but it is definitely possible! Keep reading to steal some ideas from these two 😉
Sally and Neil. Ahhh these two are super friendly, hilarious and kind. They are kick ass parents too. Russell and I had been looking forward to this wedding for a long time. Ever since I met the two of them for their couple shoot at Sheffield Gardens and Sally and I chatted for what may have been hours (sorry Neil!) about planning a vegan and sustainable wedding, I knew their day would be incredible.
We all started the day at Sally’s Mum’s, just round the corner from the couple’s house where Neil was getting ready with their son Stan and his family. Sally had chosen Tia Bliss for her hair and make up as Tia uses 100% cruelty free products and is vegan herself. Sally’s lovely Mum had arranged a surprise VW camper van to take them all to the ceremony - so cute!
The couple chose to hold their intimate ceremony at Lewes Registry Office (Southover Grange), a quirky 16th Century Manor House in the middle of Lewes. We really liked that they chose to have a smaller ceremony followed by a party as this meant they got plenty of time with family 💛 just look at how happy Erin is to see her Mum and Dad get married!
After the ceremony everyone went to a cute little wine bar for champagne and canapés while Russell and I went ahead to Four Oaks Farm to meet their guests and await their arrival. Four Oaks Farm is such a lovely venue as you can pop a tipi up right by the lake and have lots of outdoor games. At least that was the plan until our English summer intervened 😂 the weather was absolutely terrible 😂. Due to heavy winds and rain Tentipi (the guys who provided the tipi) made the call to keep the sides of the tipi down permanently for the entire day (completely justified but I definitely did a big photographer cry inside when I found out!). Having said that, I’ve never met anyone who can take anything in their stride quite like Sally and Neil. They just didn’t care about the weather! #perfectcouple All they wanted was to have a great day with their friends and family and that’s what they did :)
The extra super Superdoux from Brighton provided a fantastic vegan buffet which went down well with everyone, even the non-vegans 😉 and the awesome vegan cakes were provided by The Cornish Pasty Shop yummmm.
It was important to both Sally and Neil that their wedding produced as little waste as possible, not only did they choose suppliers based on their eco credentials but they also asked guests to BYOB and drinking receptacle - they even had a prize for the most original. Guests brought mugs (my favourite of which is below modelled by Sally’s awesome sister Charlotte!) and ale tankards but oh my gosh…there were some very original ones 😂😂 see below! They also provided buckets for food waste and recycling.
The couple chose the band Shockwave to get everyone up on their feet and I defo recommend them, live bands at weddings are such a good choice if you want the dance floor to be packed!
A woman after my own heart, Sally isn’t too fond of traditions so there was no cake cutting 🙌 and her and her mum were the only ones who gave a speech. Love it.
Righto, I’m going to stop waffling now and let the photos tell the rest!
